Many of us aspire to own a dream car. But this is the story of a man who went on to make dream cars. Ferrucio was born on 28 April 1916 in a family of Italian grape farmers. Due to his experience as an airplane mechanic in the air force during the 2’nd world war, he developed solid mechanical know-how. And after the war ended, he entered the business of tractor manufacturing in 1948. His business was so successful that he was soon among the wealthiest men in Italy. Like many of us, he too had a love for automobiles and since he could afford it, he owned some of the best cars in the world. Amongst them was the much talked about Ferrari 250 GT. However, this car badly disappointed him. He thought it was too noisy and whenever he tried to race it, the clutch would slip under the acceleration.
He kept going back to the Ferrari service station to have the car repaired but the problem remained unsolved.
Finally, he decided to talk to its owner Enzo Ferrari. But as things turned out, he was made to wait for a very long time before he was allowed to meet him. And by the time they met, Ferrucio was quite irritable and ended up telling Enzo that his fancy looking cars were rubbish! Enzo, who was an equally fiery man, quickly retorted saying that he didn’t need advice from a tractor mechanic. He went on to tell Ferrucio that maybe he should stick to driving tractors because maybe he didn’t know how to handle the best car in the world.
That was the moment when Ferrucio Lamborghini decided that he would make the best car in the world himself! In 1963 he went on to establish Automobili Lamborghini and in just 4 months time he designed and built the Lamborghini 350 GT. After this model was a super hit, it was followed by many others and each one was rated as being far superior to any of Ferrari’s cars. And the rest as they say is history. Today for anyone who’s a genuine car lover, Lamborghini is the ultimate dream car!
This story is a strong reminder that Words have great power. Words can make or break people, businesses or relations. One small incident and a few rude words by Enzo Ferrari resulted in the creation of a formidable and a lifelong competitor for his business.
So, I’m going practice being a lot more patient and choose my words carefully! What about you?
