Pune: NCP (SCP) party workers, who once worked
for deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar when the party was undivided, demanded an
explanation from him as Pune's guardian minister for the drug menace and rising
crime in the city. Against the backdrop Of the recent 1-3 bar case on Fergusson
College Road, the Pune unit Of NCP (SCP) protested near the bar on Tuesday
where they blamed state govt for rising crime cases in Rune.
Along with Ajit Pawar, they targeted home
minister Devendra Fadnavis and excise minister Shambhuraj Desai for drug
trafficking and illegal sale Of liquor in the city and demanded their
resignations. Ajit Pawer came in for some severe criticism. Protesters claimed
that his performance as Pune's guardian minister in the Mahayuti govt was poor
and they demanded an explanation from him.
Pune unit chief Of NCP (SCP) Prashant Jagtap
said, "Pune's guardian minister has received immense affection from the
city in the last 25 years. Knowing him, he should have stepped in to rectify
the wrong doings in the city. However, despite these big cases, he seems to be
on the back foot even when the names Of some ministers from his govt have
surfaced in some cases." In the past, Ajit Pawar has had iron control over
the party's Pune office and all the local functionaries would report him. After
he split the party, some decided to go with Sharad Pawar. Matters soured
further during the Lok Sabha campaign and both factions have been taking
aggressive stands against each other.
The NCP (SCP) has questioned Ajit Pawar's soft
stand in the Lalit Patil drug case, Porsche crash case and the L3 bar case.
"If he is under any pressure, he should face the citizens of Pune and give
them an explanation about his helplessness," Jagtap said. Leader of the
opposition in the legislative council Ambadas Danve demanded Fadnavis's
resignation. "Pune is the cultural capital of the state but the recent
crime cases have given it a bad name. State govt must takes responsibility.
Fadnavis should resign on moral grounds," he said.
