Delhi News Today Live Updates: The CBI
had sought a 5-day custody of the Delhi CM.
Delhi News Live Updates (26
June): A Delhi court on
Wednesday sent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to 3-day custody of the Central
Bureau of Investiation hours after he was arrested by the probe agency in
connection with the excise policy case. The CBI had sought a 5-day custody of
the Delhi CM. While the ED case investigates the alleged money trail, the CBI
case will have to prove corruption and bribe-taking by public servants. The ED
had arrested Kejriwal in March on money laundering charges. The CBI had
registered a case of corruption under the Prevention of Corruption Act (PC Act)
back in 2022, but it did not name Kejriwal as an accused.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court on Wednesday,
allowed the Delhi CM to withdraw his plea against the High Court’s interim stay
on the trial court’s bail order in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case. This
came shortly after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)
in connection with a corruption case related to the alleged excise policy scam.
The CM has been lodged in Tihar Jail since his arrest by the ED on March 21 in
an alleged money laundering case.
